This exhibit presentation opens on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s 200th birthday in the foyer of the Electrothater. It is dedicated to Boris Yukhananov’s Katabasis. Demons, which premiered on 25 September 2021 at the Staatstheater Cottbus (scenery by Stepan Lukyanov, costumes by Anastasia Nefyodova, music by Dmitry Kurlyandsky, text by Olga Fedyanina). It is a scenic composition based on Dostoevsky’s Demons and a graphic series by Boris Yukhananov consisting of 86 artworks. At the exhibit, the graphic artworks will be accompanied by photographs and video clips from the performance and animations created by video artists Ilya Starilov and Alexandra Agrinskaya for the production. In addition, the presentation will play host to the digital release of Dmitry Kurlyansky’s album with a musical composition written especially for the performance (on the Kotä label).
Boris Yukhananov is the artistic director of the Stanislavsky Electrotheater and the founding father of the philosophy of new proceduralism. According to Yukhananov’s strategy, theater should be a place where all time-based art forms come together. For him, the results of his work — a stage production — as a kind of finished product play a supporting role by the logic by which his projects live and new meanings are created.
